In 1952, Czechoslovak football was reorganized by the communist regime, ZSJ Vítkovické železárny had to leave the first division despite rank ninth. 1963 Vítkovice missed promotion to the first division due to a single goal.

It was not until 1981 that TJ Vítkovice, as the club was now called, made the rise. Vítkovice was completely surprisingly Czechoslovakian champion in 1986. In the 1986/87 European Cup , the team first defeated Paris Saint-Germain , but failed in the second round at the eventual winners FC Porto . That season, Vítkovice was runner-up and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup in 1987/88 .

Since then, the club has never been able to build on this successful period and was relegated from the first division in 1994. He merged with Kovona Karviná to form FC Karviná-Vítkovice. After only one year the merger was resolved again, Vítkovice started only in the MSFL , the 3rd division, but rose again immediately. FC Vítkovice has played in the 2nd division without interruption since 1996. In the 2009/10 season, the FC rose from the bottom of the table from the 2nd division and initially entered the third-highest division in Czech football, the MSFL , in the 2010/11 season . The club filed for bankruptcy on February 9, 2011 and participated in Divize D's game operations in the 2011/12 season. After the 2011/2012 season, the club went bankrupt and disappeared from the club register. Some players and parts of the board then founded the successor club MFK Vítkovice in July 2012 .
