The Městský stadion ( German  municipal stadium ) in the Vítkovice district of the statutory Czech town of Ostrava is a football stadium with an athletics facility , which is mainly used for football matches. The stadium was opened in 1939 and since the renovation, which was completed in 2015, has provided 15,123 covered seats.

It was the home of the football club FC Vítkovice until its dissolution in 2012 . The successor club, MFK Vítkovice, has been based in the city stadium since 2013 . The FC Baník Ostrava football club has been based in the facility since the 2015/16 season , as the old Bazaly stadium from 1959 is being demolished.

In addition, it houses the since 1961 Athletics -Meeting Golden Spike Ostrava ( Czech Golden Spike Ostrava ), which for IAAF World Challenge belongs. Other international athletics competitions such as the 2011 European Athletics U23 Championships and the 2007 World Youth Athletics Championships took place in it. In 2018, the municipal stadium hosted the Athletics Continental Cup .

Behind the main stand there is a football field made of artificial turf , which is surrounded by another athletics facility . Next to it are the facilities for the throwing disciplines . Furthermore, in the area behind the back straight there is a tennis facility , a beach volleyball court and a parking lot.

About 500 meters west of the stadium is the multi-purpose hall Ostravar Aréna , where the hockey team of HC Vítkovice Steel discharging their games.
