The stadium Střelecký ostrov , often also Stadion na Střeleckém ostrově , is a football stadium in the South Bohemian city of Budweis . The football club Dynamo Budweis plays its home games here. From 2005 to 2009 the sports facility was called E.ON Stadium . The venue now offers 6,681 seats.
history
The exact time the stadium was built is not known, but there was a sports field at this location as early as the 1920s. Not only did SK České Budějovice, founded in 1905, play there, but also the German sports club DSK Budweis and its successor DFC Budweis . Within the German-speaking population of the city, the place was called Sportplatz Schützeninsel .
The first extensive expansion took place in the mid-1960s. A covered grandstand for 1,500 spectators was created, on the opposite side a further covered standing grandstand for 3,500 people, and additional standing room was built. In addition, floodlights were installed, a scoreboard was set up and the players' cabins were expanded.
The attendance record dates from a first division game against Sparta Prague on May 9, 1987. With 12,000 fans, the stadium was sold out.
A general reconstruction was carried out in several stages between 2003 and 2006. The opposite stand and the stands behind the gate were demolished and rebuilt. The main stand was also rebuilt. The stadium has been completely covered since then and offers 6,681 seats.
From 2005 to 2009 the energy company E.ON held the naming rights to the stadium, which was accordingly called E.ON Stadion .
