The Andrův stadium is a football stadium in the Nová Ulice ( German  Neugasse ) district of the Moravian city of Olomouc , Czech Republic . The SK Sigma Olomouc football club has played its home games here since 1969. The stadium is named after the Olomouc wholesaler Josef Ander.

history

In 1938, the wholesale merchant Josef Ander, patron of SK Olomouc ASO (ASO stood for Ander a syn Olomouc , German: Ander and Son, Olomouc) commissioned the construction of a new stadium. After two years of construction, the stadium was opened in 1940 with the cup final between Olomouc ASO and SK Prostějov . The capacity was 20,000 spectators. The reinforced concrete grandstand was particularly striking for the time.

At the end of the Second World War , the stadium was destroyed by German troops . Then a temporary wooden grandstand was built, which stood until 1977. After the dissolution of the SK Olomouc ASO in 1951, it served the army team Křídla Vlasti Olomouc as the home ground until 1955. In 1950 it was renamed Stadium Míru (German: Stadium of Peace ). The building became the property of the city and later briefly belonged to the Slavoj Zora Olomouc association .

In the following years the stadium fell into disrepair and stood empty. It was only in 1969 that it was leased to TJ Sigma MŽ Olomouc , today's SK Sigma Olomouc, free of charge . In 1974 the association built a new building with changing rooms, offices and club rooms. Three years later, the wooden grandstand was demolished and a new main grandstand was built in its place.

The rise of Sigma in the first division made an expansion necessary. First a steel structure was built. In 1985 a grandstand was added on the opposite side, so that the capacity increased to 6,000 spectators. In 1993 the building, now again named Andrův Stadium , was given a floodlight system . In 1998, seat shells were installed on the main stand, while the main stand was lengthened.

The new south stand was inaugurated for the UEFA Cup match against Olympique Marseille . The soaring north stand was ready for the Intertotopokalfinale 2000 against Udinese Calcio . Finally, the standing room in the opposite stand was converted into seating. During the summer break of 2006, turf heating was installed. The roofing of the two stands behind the gate is planned for the near future; the capacity is to increase to around 16,000 seats. The Spartakiádní stadium is in the immediate vicinity .

The stadium was one of the four venues for the 2015 U-21 European Football Championship . In addition, nine international matches for the Czech national soccer team have taken place in the stadium so far , the last so far on June 3, 2014 against Austria (1: 2).

In December 2017 Sigma Olomouc agreed to sell the stadium to the City for 144.9 million CZK (approx. 5.7 million euros ). This is to ensure that the Andrův Stadium will be demolished by a new owner and that another building will be built there. The club can continue to use the venue, but does not have to pay the costs for maintenance or renovations. The city pays the first installment of CZK 999,000 when the contract is signed. This is followed by annual payments of CZK 12 million over 12 years.
