The Bazaly (also known as Stadium na Bazalech ) was a football stadium in the Czech city of Ostrava , region Moravskoslezský kraj . The football club FC Baník Ostrava played its home games here from 1959 to 2015. The stadium is named after the locality Bazaly. The capacity is 17,372 seats. The stadium is single tier. The main stand with 2827 seats is covered, but the remaining 15,545 seats are not.

history

The stadium was built in several stages from 1957 to 1959. The first game took place on April 19, 1959, Baník Ostrava lost to Spartak Ústí nad Labem 2: 3. In 1967 the capacity was 28,500, of which 25,000 were standing room. The first international match at the Bazaly Stadium took place on June 1, 1977. The Czechoslovakia split from Austria goalless. In 1988 and again in 1994 the grandstand was rebuilt. Since then, the stadium has only had seats, with capacity falling to 18,667. In 2003 there was a comprehensive modernization, during which new seats were also installed. Since then, the FCB lettering has adorned the back straight; The three letters are made up of white seats, with blue seats on the outside.

On August 16, 2000, the only international match of the Czech national football team was played in Bazaly. The Czechs lost 1-0 to Slovenia in a friendly . The last renovation measures took place in 2003. The stadium no longer met the current requirements of UEFA. For the 2004 European Cup matches, UEFA granted an exception. An extensive renovation or a new stadium would have become very complicated and expensive. The reason for this is the special location of the stadium, which is tightly enclosed on the east, north and west sides by a main road. From the 2011/12 season , only Czech league and cup games were allowed to take place in the facility. Until the end of the 2014/15 season , Baník Ostrava used the Bazaly Stadium.

On May 30, 2015, Baník Ostrava played for the last time in the 56-year-old facility. The league game against FK Dukla Prague ended in a 1-1 draw. However, the curious fact is that this game was not whistled because the Ultras stormed the field shortly before the end and forced the game to be abandoned. In total, Baník played 819 games in the stadium. This results in a record of 477 wins, 209 draws and 133 defeats. The goal difference is 1507: 684. The demolition finally took place in mid-2018. However, in the next few years a youth center with a small stadium and training grounds will be built in the same place.

FC Baník Ostrava found a new home with the Městský stadion - Vítkovice Aréna of the city rivals FC Vítkovice, which was dissolved in 2012 . However, a successor is now active again in the 2nd division FNL.
