Pavel Kuka (born July 19, 1968 in Prague ) is a former Czech football player .

career

Stations as a club player

The striker began playing soccer at Slavia Prague , for whom he made his debut in the 1st division of what was then Czechoslovakia in 1987 . He did his army service between 1987 and 1989 with RH Cheb , then he played again for Slavia.

In the winter break of the 1993/94 season he moved to the German Bundesliga for 1. FC Kaiserslautern for a transfer fee of 1.75 million Deutschmarks and contributed eight goals in ten games in the second half of the season to the Palatinate team. Among other things, a brace in the 4-0 win against FC Bayern at home in Betzenberg was remembered. In the following season he continued his successful time at FCK. He scored 16 goals and was used in all 34 games. 1996 was a contradicting year of disappointments and successes. Together with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, he was relegated from the 1. Bundesliga, but won the DFB Cup a week after relegation and shortly afterwards became vice European champion with the Czech national soccer team in England . However, the final was decided extremely unfortunate by a golden goal in extra time. He then experienced promotion to the Bundesliga again in 1996/97 with the Red Devils from Kaiserslautern and was again the most successful goalscorer in the Palatinate with 14 goals. Then the FCK achieved the sensational win of the championship as a climber, to which he contributed with five goals scored. Towards the end of the season, however, he had lost his regular place.

Therefore he moved to the newly promoted 1. FC Nürnberg for the 1998/99 season . Although he became a support in the attack there, the club could not avoid the narrow relegation. Kuka moved to VfB Stuttgart , where he could not gain a foothold.

After a total of 144 games and 50 goals in the Bundesliga and 25 games (14 goals) in the 2nd Bundesliga, he left Germany in September 2000 and returned to Slavia Prague . With this team he won the Czech Cup in 2002, and in 2005 he ended his active career there.

He also plays for the amateur club SK Marila Votice.

National team

Pavel Kuka played a total of 87 full international matches, scoring 29 goals. On August 29, 1990, he made his debut for the Czechoslovak national soccer team in a friendly against Finland . Until the separation of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia , he came to 24 internationals (7 goals). He then played another 63 times for the Czech national football team , scoring 22 goals. With her he took part in the European Championship in 1996 , at which the Czech Republic became vice European champion, and at the EM 2000 . After more than eleven years, he ended his international career with a role in the World Cup qualifier against Malta on September 5, 2001.

Sports director

In 2005, Pavel Kuka was the sports director of the Czech first division club FK Marila Příbram , but left the club at his own request after six months. Since January 14, 2013, Kuka has been sports director at Viktoria Pilsen . With Pilsen he was Czech champion in 2013 . On January 15, 2015 it was announced that Kuka was leaving the club after two years to concentrate on the Czech 96 club he founded.
