The 2006 DFB Cup winner was FC Bayern Munich . In the final at the Olympiastadion Berlin , Bayern were able todefend the titleon April 29, 2006 by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0. Despite this defeat, Frankfurt was able to take part in the UEFA Cup in the 2006/2007season, as Munich had already qualified for the Champions League . Frankfurt failed as the bottom of the group in the group stage .
In addition to the Bundesliga clubs from Munich, Frankfurt and Bielefeld, a club from the third-class Regionalliga Nord, the Hamburg Cup winner FC St. Pauli, also reached the semi-finals. The Millerntor Club eliminated two first division clubs, Hertha BSC and Werder Bremen . Against the Berliners, St. Pauli succeeded in the second round of catching up several times behind.
