Christoph Spycher (born March 30, 1978 in Wolhusen ) is a former Swiss football player . His position was on the left defensive, but he could also be used on the left wing in midfield. He grew up in Oberscherli in the municipality of Köniz and has a high school diploma . Spycher's great idol is Zinédine Zidane . In Switzerland in particular, he is also known by the nickname “Wuschu”.
Career
society
In his youth he played for FC Sternenberg , SC Bümpliz 78 and FC Münsingen . He began his professional football career in 1999 with FC Luzern , where he stayed until 2001. He then moved to the Grasshopper Club Zurich , with which he became Swiss champion in 2003. He played a total of 137 games in the Super League , including 61 for Lucerne and 76 (five goals) for Grasshopper Club Zurich. For the 2005/06 season he moved to the German first division club Eintracht Frankfurt , where he became a regular player. On April 24, 2008, Spycher extended his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt by two years until June 30, 2010. In the 2009/10 season he was the captain of Eintracht and also a member of the team's council. At Eintracht Frankfurt, he was the extended arm of the coach on the field.
In April 2010 the BSC Young Boys signed a three-year contract with Spycher Spycher announced his resignation in May 2014 and was adopted in the YB-St.Gallen game on May 18th. In September 2016 he succeeded Fredy Bickel as head of sport at YB.
National team
Spycher played for the Swiss national football team since 2002 and took part in the 2004 European Championship in Portugal , where he was used in all games. He got the best marks from the critics of all Swiss players at this tournament and said himself: “I can be satisfied with my performance at the European Championship. Still, it would have been nicer if we had done more successfully ”. After two defeats against England and France and a draw against Croatia in the preliminary round, Switzerland was eliminated from the bottom of the group. Spycher was also used in the preliminary round matches of the 2006 World Cup in Germany against South Korea. At the European Championships in 2008 in Austria and Switzerland, he was again in the Swiss squad , but was not used. After the 2010 World Cup in South Africa , Spycher wanted to end his national team career. However, since he could not participate due to an injury, he ended his national team career before that.
