The SC Bümpliz 78 is a Swiss football club from the Bernese Quartier Bümpliz . The club currently plays in the 2nd regional division , the fifth division in Switzerland.

history

The SC Bümpliz 78 was created in 1978 from a merger of the two clubs FC Bümpliz and FC Rot-Weiss Bümpliz. The team played in their first season in the 3rd division and immediately rose to the 2nd division . With little money, the club made it to the first division in the 1984/85 season . During this time the two brothers René Sutter and Alain Sutter went their separate ways. René was poached by the BSC Young Boys and Alain found a new employer at the Grasshopper Club Zurich . The SC Bümpliz rose immediately back to the 2nd division. It was only in 1990 that the Bümplizer managed to return to the first division. In the 1991/92 season promotion to the managed National League B . In the 1992/93 season, the team fought in vain to keep the league, after two defeats in the playoffs against Urania Genève Sport had to start again in the first division. The club did not recover from this setback; until 1999 the club remained at least the league operations of the 1st division. In the 1999/2000 season, the Bümplizer rose to the 2nd interregional league and the club management was only just able to avoid bankruptcy.
