DFB Cup 1964/65

DFB Cup winner in 1965 was Borussia Dortmund . With Alemannia Aachen , for the first time since the introduction of the Bundesliga in 1963, a second-rate regional division reached the final of the DFB Cup. The final took place on May 22, 1965 in Hanover. With this title, Borussia Dortmund qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965/66 , which Dortmund won with a 2-1 win in the final against Liverpool FC . For the first time, the cup winner received a new trophy, the DFB club cup in its current form. Defending champion TSV 1860 Munich had already beeneliminatedin the round of 16 against the regional division 1. FSV Mainz 05 after a replay. For the defeated finalist Alemannia Aachen it was already the second defeat in the final after 1953.
