career

Regionalliga West and Bundesliga with Alemannia Aachen, 1964 to 1971

At the age of 19 Erwin Hermandung came in 1964 from SV Baal in the Heinsberg district to the Tivoli in Aachen for the regional league team Alemannia Aachen. Coach Oswald Pfau immediately used the ex-amateur player on the start day of the 1964/65 round, August 9, 1964, at Eintracht Gelsenkirchen . The 1.83 m tall all-rounder scored his first goals in the Regionalliga for Alemannia on matchday four in a 4-1 home win against STV Horst. The newcomer came with Aachen in 1965 behind champions and Bundesliga promoted Borussia Mönchengladbach in second place and thus moved into the promotion round with his teammates. There the team failed around the top performers Christian Breuer and Josef Martinelli at Bayern Munich . In addition to the regional round, Hermandung experienced in his debut round in contract football the surprising entry into the final of the DFB Cup in 1965. On May 22nd, Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund decided the cup final 2-0 in Hanover . In his second season in Aachen, 1965/66 , Hermandung missed with Alemannia as third in the table, the renewed entry into the promotion round. With coach Michael Pfeiffer , he won the regional league championship 1966/67 with Aachen in his third year and also prevailed in the promotion round before Kickers Offenbach . Hermandung played all eight promotion games. In the second season in the Bundesliga 1968/69 , the man from Baal was part of the Alemannia Aachen runner -up team with 33 appearances and eleven goals. Krass was then the result of the following round in 1969/70: the runner-up from 1969 was relegated from the Bundesliga as bottom of the table. Hermandung had played 98 games with 19 goals in the Bundesliga from 1967 to 1970 for Aachen. He stayed at Tivoli after the descent and tried to bring about an immediate return. With a disappointing 34:34 points, Hermandung and colleagues did not succeed in 1970/71 . In the Regionalliga West , Hermandung played 90 games with 29 goals from 1964 to 1971.

Hertha BSC, 1971 to 1977

Coach Helmut Kronsbein brought Erwin Hermandung to Hertha in Berlin in the summer of 1971 and used the former Aachen player in all 34 games of the 1971/72 round. Volkmar Groß , Erich Beer , Lorenz Horr and Arno Steffenhagen were among the top performers of Hertha, who came in sixth, in addition to the newcomer. Hermandung won the second runner-up in the Bundesliga in 1974/75 with coach Georg Keßler and defenders Uwe Kliemann , Ludwig Müller , Michael Sziedat and Hans Weiner . In the UEFA Cup , Hermandung gained experience in the games against HJK Helsinki and Ajax Amsterdam in 1975/76 . In his sixth and last round at Hertha BSC, 1976/77, Hermandung made another 33 missions where he also scored five goals. The climax were the two final games for the DFB Cup in 1977 on May 28 and May 30 in Hanover against 1. FC Cologne . Cologne won the replay 1-0 and Hermandung ended his career in the Bundesliga in 1977 after 192 appearances with 34 goals for Hertha BSC.

2nd Bundesliga, 1977 to 1982

At the age of 33, Hermandung accepted the challenge of the 2nd division at Eintracht Trier in the 1977/78 season. The veteran reached the best place in the table with the team from the Mosel Stadium in his fourth year in Trier with coach Werner Kern when Eintracht came in eighth. From 1977 to 1981, 151 appearances in the second division with 27 goals came together for the defense in Trier. At the age of 37 he made an attempt in the 1981/82 season to save SpVgg Bayreuth from falling into the amateur league. Despite his involvement in 27 other games, this company did not succeed at the side of the two other "oldies" Wolfgang Breuer and Manfred Großesler. In the summer of 1982 Erwin Hermandung ended his career as a licensed footballer.
