Career

Born in 1963 from the youth of Borussia Brand - including a teammate of Herbert Wimmer - and outgrown the youth, Gronen was signed by the regional league team Alemannia Aachen for the 1963/64 season . At the end of his first season he won the championship in the Regionalliga West with the team . In the subsequent round of promotion to the Bundesliga , he only finished Group 2 as third-placed; so also in the following season when his team finished the season in second place . On the other hand, it was successful in the DFB Cup competition, in which he advanced to the finals with the Aacheners , but lost 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund .

As a regional league champion emerged from the 1966/67 season , he and his team - in the third attempt - finished group 2 of the promotion round to the Bundesliga as the winner. In his first Bundesliga season , he made his debut on August 19, 1967 (1st matchday) in the 0: 4 defeat in the home game against FC Bayern Munich , he played 32 point games in which he scored two goals. In the following season he contributed with 24 point games and one goal to second place behind Bayern Munich in the championship. At the end of the 1969/70 season, his 25 point games, in which he scored one goal, could not prevent his return to the Regionalliga West .

After another season for Alemannia Aachen, he moved to Bundesliga promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf for the 1971/72 season , for which he scored a goal in 20 Bundesliga games.

He then played the first half of the 1972/73 season for the Austrian national division SC Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz , which, however, had to be relegated as a newcomer. Most recently, he played 77 points games for SK Rapid Vienna from March 17, 1973 to October 31, 1975 , for which he scored twelve goals. On May 27 and June 2, 1973, he played the return game for the ÖFB Cup , which ended 2-2 against SSW Innsbruck , but the cup victory went to them due to the away goals rule .
