Borussia Brand 08 eV is a sports club from Aachen , Brand with the departments soccer, handball and table tennis.
The men's table tennis team played in the Bundesliga in the 1996/97 season . The future national player Herbert Wimmer began his career in the football department .
Club history
The club was founded on September 27, 1908 as a football club under the name Urania Brand . In 1909 it was renamed Borussia Brand . After the First World War , the name of the association was expanded to include an association for games and sports with the aim of opening up to other sports. In the 1920s, an athletics department was integrated. In the 1930s a handball and table tennis division followed. In 1980/81 the association was restructured and the individual departments became more independent.
Table tennis
The table tennis department was established in 1934 when the Blau-Weiß Brand table tennis club, founded in 1932, joined the club. In 1989 the men's team reached the Oberliga, in 1992 the 2nd Bundesliga North.
Here she was second in the 1995/96 season. Since the table first TTC Burtelt Altena renounced the promotion, Brand moved up as a promoter. The promotion team included Pascal Closquin (Belgium), Rainer Felder, Dirk Höller, Colum Slevin (Ireland), Piotr Szafranek (Poland), Marc Wauthier and Karsten Willhöft. The newcomers Marek Cihak (CSSR), Michael Görsch (RW Porz) and Ondrej Kunz (GW Hamm) were signed for the 1st Bundesliga . However, the team remained without a win and broke up in 1997.
Today (2010) the 1st men's team plays in the association league. There are also four other men's teams and three junior teams active.
