← DFB Cup 2010/11 | |
The 2011/12 DFB-Pokal was the 69th staging of the men's soccer cup competition. As usual since 1985, the final was held in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. The winner of the final was Borussia Dortmund , which had previously won the German championship and was the first time a double winner.
Defending champion FC Schalke 04 were eliminated in the round of 16 against Borussia Mönchengladbach .
As in previous years, the DFB Cup winner would have been given the right to start in the group stage of the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League . However, as both Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich qualified for the UEFA Champions League in the Bundesliga, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, fifth in the Bundesliga , received immediate qualification for the group stage of the Europa League, while the seventh in the Bundesliga, Hanover 96, received their right to start in the Europa League qualification.
As in the previous season, no two teams from a club or a corporation were allowed to take part in the games for the DFB club cup.

draw
The draw for the first main round took place on June 11, 2011 (6:00 p.m.) live in the ARD Sportschau , the 64 teams were put in two pots for the draw: The amateur pot included all teams that
- have qualified for the DFB-Pokal through the state cups (24),
- took the last four places in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2010/11 season (4)
- finished in the first four places in the 3rd division in the 2010/11 season (4)
Each of these teams was drawn to a team from the professional pool, which included all teams in the Bundesliga and the 14 highest-ranked teams in the 2nd Bundesliga for the 2010/11 season. The teams of the amateur pot enjoyed the home right .
In the 2nd round there was also a lottery drawn from an amateur and a professional pot. Here, however, all teams in the 2nd Bundesliga were considered professional teams. Here too the amateur teams enjoyed home rights. If one of the pots was used up, the remaining pot was drawn to the end; the team drawn first in a pairing always received home rights.
From the last sixteen onwards, there was only one pot to draw. Home rights enjoyed an amateur team when they played against a professional team, otherwise the team drawn first in a pairing.
