The SVN Zweibrücken is a sports club from the Niederauerbach district of Zweibrücken .
history
The club was founded in 1929 as SV Niederauerbach . It first attracted more attention in 1998 when the footballers were promoted to the Association League Southwest. Here, the SV mostly occupied places in the top third of the table. In the 2007/08 season they made it to the league southwest as the first in the table .
SVN Zweibrücken celebrated the greatest success in the club's history by winning the 2011 SWFV Association Cup after a 2-1 win after extra time over SC 07 Idar-Oberstein . This qualified the club for the first main round of the 2011/12 DFB Cup , in which the Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05 met. On July 31, 2011, SVN Zweibrücken lost this DFB Cup match 1: 2 after extra time in front of 7,165 spectators in the Homburg Waldstadion.
In addition, the club made it into the finals of the Southwest Cup in the 2007/08 season. Getting into the finals also meant qualifying for the DFB-Pokal 2008/09 , as the final opponent 1. FC Kaiserslautern II was not eligible to participate as a second representative of a professional team. In the first main round, SV Niederauerbach met 1. FC Köln on August 7, 2008 , but retired after a 5-1 defeat in front of 8,500 spectators in the Pirmasens Sportpark Husterhöhe against the Bundesliga club.
On July 1, 2009, the association was renamed SVN 1929 Zweibrücken . As champions of the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar 2012/13 , the club was promoted to the Regionalliga Südwest for the first time .
Due to several coach changes, internal differences and the loss of the main sponsor, the SVN got into financial difficulties; the bankruptcy was prevented by the sale of service providers. As a result, the team lost 18 games in a row and rose with only 15 points as bottom of the table after the 2014/15 season in the league. However, the league team proved to be not competitive, it only managed one win until the winter break, while all remaining games were lost. In January 2016, SVN Zweibrücken withdrew its team from match operations and was about to open insolvency proceedings. In the 2016/17 season, SV Niederauerbach starts in a syndicate with FC Oberauerbach in the B-Class Pirmasens-Zweibrücken. The season was not easy for the newly formed team, but in the end they were able to secure relegation.
