Since TSV 1860 could not afford the loan fee for the second half of the season, it was finally awarded to the second division club FC Augsburg until summer 2011 . He made nine appearances for FCA in the second half of the season.

From the beginning of the 2011/12 season, Leitner was part of the BVB squad. He made his debut on September 24, 2011 in the game against 1. Leitner returned to Borussia Dortmund for the 2015/16 season. In the professional team he was rarely used and played for the second team of BVB . On the 14th day of the Regional League West he received the "little derby " against the second team of FC Schalke 04 (0: 0) after the final whistle, the red card shown for referee insult and was banned for three games.

By the end of the season he had twelve missions (no goal). For the 2018/19 season , Norwich City acquired the transfer rights to Leitner and provided him with a contract that runs until June 30, 2022.
