Emiliano Buendía Stati [ emiˈljano βwenˈdi.a ˈstati ] (born December 25, 1996 in Mar del Plata ), mainly known as Emi , is an Argentine - Spanish football player who has been under contract with the English first division club Norwich City since the 2018/19 season . He can act as an attacking midfielder on the field as well as occupy the positions on both sides of the wing .

In 2009 Emiliano Buendía came to Madrid from his native Argentina , where he ended up at local rivals Getafe FC via Real . On March 30, 2014 he made his debut in the reserve team of the Azulones in the third-class Segunda División B in a 2-1 away win against CD Puerta Bonita . On April 13, he scored his first goal in a 2-0 win over Peña Sport FC . His good performances were also noticed by the first team coach Cosmin Contra . He finally made his debut there on December 5, 2014, when he came on for Ángel Lafita in the 3-0 cup win over SD Eibar . He made his debut in the Primera División on February 1, 2015 in the 0-1 away defeat by UD Almería . His first competitive goal for the professionals was on September 27 in a 3-0 home win against UD Levante . In this 2015/16 season , however, he was only used in 15 league games and often only a few minutes in those. In addition, he and his team had to accept relegation to the Segunda División , but after the season he extended his contract until 2021. After an ankle injury, which made him sit out from the start of the season in August to January, he came to Getafe on January 6, 2017 against UD Almería for his first appearance in the 2016/17 season . In the rest of the season he scored two goals in twelve competitive games.

Cultural Leonesa

On July 27, 2017, Emi Buendía moved to the second division Cultural Leonesa in a loan deal for the entire 2017/18 season . He made his debut for the team from León on August 18, 2017 in the 2-0 away defeat at Lorca FC . After he was able to shine in the first games of the season mainly through templates, he scored on matchday 6 in the 1: 3 away defeat against Rayo Vallecano for the first time for his loan club. Buendía was able to score six goals and prepare thirteen in 40 league appearances this season, placing him in third place in the list of the best assists. His strong performances did not help his loan club Cultural Leonesa to prevent relegation and earned him a nomination for Player of the Year in LaLiga2. He was named Player of the Season by fans of the club.

Norwich City

For the 2018/19 season, Emi Buendía moved to the English second division Norwich City , where he signed a four-year contract and became the first commitment of the new coach Daniel Farke . The transfer fee due for his services is £ 1.5 million. He made his debut for the Canaries on August 22, 2018 in a 2-0 home win against Preston North End when he came on for Ben Marshall in the second half . The fans got their first impressions of Buendía six days later in the League Cup , when he prepared two goals in the 3-1 away win against the first division club . In the next round of the Cup in the 4-3 away win against Wycombe Wanderers , he presented three goals for his team. He scored his first own goal on October 27 in a 1-0 home win against Brentford FC . With eight goals and twelve assists, he contributed significantly to the championship title of the Canaries and the resulting promotion to the highest English league .

On July 8, 2019, Buendía signed a new contract with Norwich, which now ties him to the club until 2024.

National team

Born in Argentina, Emi Buendía has both his native citizenship and Spanish citizenship. He played three times for the Spanish U-19 national team in 2014 after being called up for the first time in mid-September.

Since May 2015 he played for the U-20 Argentina with whom he took part in the U-20 World Cup in New Zealand in 2015 . In the group stage, where the Albiceleste were eliminated early, he was used in all three games. He scored his only tournament goal in the 3-2 loss to Ghana .
