Daniel Farke (born October 30, 1976 in Steinfurt ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player . He has been the head coach of Norwich City since summer 2017 .
Career
Daniel Farke is the grandson of Franz Farke and grew up in Büren, Westphalia . As a teenager he played for SV Steinhausen , SC Paderborn 07 , Borussia Lippstadt and SV Lippstadt 08 . In the 2002/03 season , Farke was the top scorer of the Oberliga Westfalen in the SV Lippstadt 08 jersey and scored 36 goals. He then moved to SV Wilhelmshaven , with whom he qualified in 2004 for the single-track Oberliga Nord and a year later was runner-up there behind Kickers Emden . The striker Farke then moved to the upper division Bonner SC before returning to Lippstadt during the winter break of the 2005/06 season. At the end of the season, Farke moved on to the league club SV Meppen before returning to SV Lippstadt 08 after a few months without a club, which was relegated to the Westphalia League this season .
He then ended his active career as a player and initially became sports director in Lippstadt. In the summer of 2009 he succeeded Holger Wortmann as coach of SV Lippstadt 08. With two consecutive championships, Farke led the Lippstadt team to the Regionalliga West in 2013 , before relegation to the Oberliga Westfalen a year later. After the recovery failed, he dissolved his contract with SV Lippstadt. In autumn 2015, Farke took over the second team from Borussia Dortmund and led them to the runner-up in the Regionalliga West behind FC Viktoria Köln in the 2016/17 season .
Farke took over the English second division Norwich City for the 2017/18 season and became the first German head coach. In his second season he was promoted to the Premier League with the team , from which the club was relegated again after the 2019/20 season.
