Mario Vrančić (born May 23, 1989 in Slavonski Brod ) is a Bosnian - German football player . The midfielder is under contract with Norwich City .

Career

Already in the B-Junior age he was playmaker of the A-Juniors of the 1. FSV Mainz 05 . From 2006 the midfielder was in the Mainz professional squad. On May 19, 2007 (34th matchday) he came on as a substitute in the 55th minute for Marius Niculae in the 5-2 defeat in the away game against FC Bayern Munich and made his Bundesliga debut , since then he has been the youngest Mainz player in the Bundesliga -History. After that, he was only used eight times in the 2nd Bundesliga in two subsequent seasons , which led to the loan to league rivals Rot Weiss Ahlen for the 2009/10 season . When the loan period ended, he returned to Mainz, played twelve league games for the second team and switched to league rivals, Borussia Dortmund's second team, during the winter break. In the following season 2011/12 Vrančić was with her champion of the Regionalliga West .

For the 2012/13 season Vrančić moved to the second division club SC Paderborn 07 , with whom he rose to the Bundesliga for the first time after two seasons at the end of the 2013/14 season . In May 2014 he extended his contract by two years until June 30, 2016. He scored his first Bundesliga goal on August 30, 2014 (2nd matchday) in a 3-0 win in the away game against Hamburger SV with the goal to make it 2: 0 in the 69th minute. During the summer break of 2015, Vrančić left SC Paderborn after three years and moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga SV Darmstadt 98 . After two years in which he had scored six goals in 50 competitive games, he left the club on June 30, 2017 and moved to Norwich City in the English 2nd division . In the 2018/19 season he celebrated the second division championship with Norwich and rose to the Premier League .

National team

For the U-19 national team , Vrančić played 15 international matches between September 7, 2007 and July 26, 2008 and scored one goal. He made his debut on September 7, 2007 in Oberhausen in a 3-1 win over the Netherlands. On September 24, 2007, he scored his first international goal in an 8-1 win in the first game of the first main round to qualify for the U-19 European Championship in 2008 against the selection of Bosnia-Herzegovina with a goal of 4-0 in the 62nd minute . He took part with the team in the U-19 European Championship , which was held in the Czech Republic from July 14th to 26th, 2008 , played two tournament games ( 2nd group game and the semifinals ) and had a share - as a result of his team's 3-1 victory against the selection of Italy - at the European championship title.

On August 24, 2015, Vrančić was appointed by Mehmed Baždarević to the squad of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian senior team for the European Championship qualifiers against Belgium and Andorra . In the game against the Andorran national team on September 6, 2015, he made his debut when he came on for Sead Kolašinac in the 79th minute .

His older brother Damir (* 1985) played for Eintracht Braunschweig until 2016 .
