Mehmed Baždarević (born September 28, 1960 in Višegrad ) is a former Yugoslav soccer player and Bosnian soccer coach . From 2014 to 2017 he was the head coach of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national team. He coached Paris FC until December 2019 .
Career
Baždarević began his career at FK Željezničar Sarajevo . He spent nine years of his career in Sarajevo . During this time, the first call-up to the national team of Yugoslavia fell. The Bosnian made his debut in 1983. He was part of the Yugoslav squad for the 1984 European Football Championship in France . It was used three times and Yugoslavia was eliminated in the group stage. In the same year he was able to win the bronze medal with the Yugoslav selection at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . In 1987 he finally moved to France for FC Sochaux , which he remained loyal to until 1996. During this time, the independence of his home country Bosnia and Herzegovina fell . He made his debut for Bosnia-Herzegovina and was the captain of the national team in two World Cup qualifiers against Greece (3-0) and Croatia (4-1). From 1996 to 1998 he was under contract with Olympique Nîmes . He then played another year in Switzerland with Etoile Carouge.
After the playing career
After the active playing career, he became a coach. From 2003 to 2005 he coached the French club FC Istres . From 2005 to 2006 he was coach of the Tunisian club Étoile Sportive du Sahel . He then coached Al-Wakrah SC , a club from Qatar, for a year . From 2007 he coached Grenoble Foot 38 in the French second division. He then stayed for two more years, from 2011 to 2012, in France, at FC Sochaux , before he took over the coaching position at the Saudi al-Wakrah SC . At the end of 2014, Baždarević became the coach of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national team . He was fired after failing to participate in the 2016 European Championship in France and failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia .
