Blaž Slišković (born May 30, 1959 in Mostar ) is a former Bosnian-Herzegovinian football player and current coach from the former Yugoslavia , now Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Career as a player
Blaž Slišković comes from the Mostar school of Yugoslav football, known for street football and a good technique that has also produced other professional footballers such as Franjo Vladić , Dušan Bajević , Enver Marić , Semir Tuce or Sergej Barbarez .
He came to a total of 26 appearances in the Yugoslav national team, mostly friendly games and some qualifying games. Neither at the 1982 World Cup nor at the 1984 European Championship, he was part of the squad of the Yugoslav national team. The crowd loved him thanks to his dribbles, precise passes and free kicks. Unforgettable moments were his free-kick goals for Hajduk Split , in the match against Sparta Prague in the 120th minute of the eighth-finals of the UEFA Cup in the 1983/84 season and from over 25 meters in the match against FC Turin in the last 16 of the UEFA Cup in the 1984/85 season. The Hajduk team, which was strong at the time and regularly represented in European cup competitions, won 3-1 and reached the next round. In 1993 he played three friendly matches as captain for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national team.
Slišković was given a lot of media attention in Yugoslavia because of his first marriage to the handball player Svetlana Dašić-Kitić . The blonde Bosnian Serb and the Herzegovinian-Croatian footballer were a popular topic for the gossip sections.
Career as a coach
Slišković was the national coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2003 to 2006 , and tried to qualify with the team for the 2004 European Football Championship and the 2006 World Cup . After the 2006 World Cup, he set himself the new goal of reaching the 2008 European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland with the selection of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A 5-2 win over the Maltese national football team succeeded in qualifying , but the following games were unsuccessful. In response to this, the association took a leave of absence in October 2006.
Slišković also coached the Bosnian-Herzegovinian football club HŠK Zrinjski Mostar from 2005 to 2007 .
On March 12, 2010 he was introduced as the new coach of the Romanian first division club Unirea Alba Iulia .
After brief coaching positions at NK Široki Brijeg and Al-Ansar in Saudi Arabia, he was introduced in January 2012 as the new coach of the Chinese club Qingdao Jonoon , who plays in the Chinese Super League . After a brief interlude in 2015 as the coach of NK Široki Brijeg, he has been the coach of HŠK Zrinjski Mostar since 2017, with whom he won the championship of the Premijer Liga in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2017 , his first title as a coach. He was able to repeat this success in the 2017/18 season.
Since July 3, 2019 he has been under contract as a trainer at Kitchee SC in the Hong Kong Premier League .
