Al-Wakrah SC , Arabic الوكرة, DMG al-Wakra , is a sports club from al-Wakra in Qatar . The men's soccer team plays in the country's highest league, the Qatar Stars League . The team plays their home games at al-Wakrah Stadium . Founded in 1959, the football section had its greatest successes in 1999 and 2001, when the championship was won twice. In the two appearances in the AFC Champions League , the team did not get past the first round and suffered some major defeats. At the end of the past 2008/09 season, the soccer team finished eighth.
