Emad Mohammed Ridha ( Arabic عماد محمد رضا, DMG ʿImād Muḥammad Riḍā ) (born July 24, 1982 in Kerbela ) is an Iraqi former football player .

Career

Mohammed started his career at the age of ten with local club FC Karbala, where he played from 1992 to 1998. At the age of 16 he then moved to the traditional Iraqi club Al-Zawraa . With Al-Zawraa, he was Iraqi champions three times in a row between 1999 and 2001 , and cup winners in 1999 and 2000.

From 2002, several short stays at various clubs followed, so Mohammed played in the 2003/03 season with al-Gharafa in the Qatari league. After another season for az-Zawraa in Iraq, he went back to al-Gharafa and later switched to league rivals al-Wakrah SC . In 2005 he went to Iran, where he played for Foolad Ahvaz until 2006 and then for Sepahan Isfahan .

Mohammed won the Hazfi Cup with Sepahan in 2006 and 2007 ; he also reached the 2007 AFC Champions League final and took part in the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup. At the Club World Cup, he scored two goals.

In June 2010 he moved to Al-Zamalek in the Egyptian league, where he received a three-year contract.

National team

His career in the Iraqi national team began with the U-20 team , with which he won the Asian Junior Championship in Iran in 2000 . He scored both goals in the 2-1 final win over Japan and helped Iraq to its fifth title in this age category. At the following World Cup , Emad Mohammed was also part of the squad, scoring a goal in the 3-0 victory over Canada and in the 1: 6 defeat against Brazil.

In August 2000 he was called up to the B national team, which finished second in a friendship tournament in Indonesia. For the Asian Cup in the same year he was not nominated. He made his debut in the senior national team on January 31, 2001 in a 0-0 win against Lebanon .

With the Olympic selection of Iraq, he played the qualifying games for the Olympic Games in Athens in 2003 and 2004. Iraq finished fourth in the finals , with Mohammed scoring two goals, including the winning one against Australia . He also took part in the 2004 Asian Cup.

In April 2007, Mohammed was suspended from the Iraqi national team for two years due to public criticism by the Iraqi Football Association, but was pardoned again in June of the same year after a formal apology. From the then national coach Jorvan Vieira , however, he was only appointed as a reserve player for the 2007 Asian Cup , which Iraq later won. In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, however, he was back on the national team. He also took part in the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa.

In his first 81 international matches, Emad Mohammed scored 24 goals. (As of March 2010)
