Timothy "Tim" Michael Krul (born April 3, 1988 in The Hague ) is a Dutch football goalkeeper .
Career
society
Krul grew up in The Hague and played in his youth at HVV Ras and ADO Den Haag . In May 2005 he played for the Dutch U-17 team at the European Championship in Italy and came into the field of vision of various clubs through good performances. In July 2005 it was announced that Newcastle United had signed the 17-year-old; he received a three-year contract. His first professional appearance for the Magpies was in a UEFA Cup match on November 2, 2006 at US Palermo , which Newcastle won 1-0. After that game, a knee injury and subsequent surgery threw him back.
In June 2007, his contract was extended by four years. He was then awarded to the Scottish first division club FC Falkirk to collect match practice. On November 21, 2008, Krul was loaned to Carlisle United for two months .
In January 2009, Krul returned to Newcastle. On August 8, 2009 he made his debut for Newcastle. First goalkeeper Steve Harper injured himself against West Bromwich Albion and was replaced by Krul at halftime. He put on an impressive performance in the game and was subsequently acclaimed by the English press. In the following games he continued to replace the injured Harper. On December 21, 2013, Krul completed his 100th league game for Newcastle United. After the Magpies were relegated in 2016, Krul moved to AFC Ajax in his homeland in the Netherlands on loan for a year .
National team
With the U-17 selection of the Netherlands, Krul won a bronze medal at the World Cup in Peru in October 2005 . With the Dutch U-21 national team , he was European champion in June 2007 , but without having played a game. In 2009 he was appointed to the U-21 squad for the Toulon tournament. In 2011, after the regular goalkeepers Maarten Stekelenburg and Michel Vorm were injured, he was called up by bond coach Bert van Marwijk to join the Elftal squad for a trip to South America . Here he made his debut in Orange on June 4, 2011 against Brazil in Goiânia .
On July 5, 2014, he came on shortly before the end of stoppage time and saved two shots by Bryan Ruiz and Michael Umaña in the penalty shoot-out in the World Cup quarter-final match in Salvador (Bahia) against Costa Rica , bringing the Elftal into the semi-finals against Argentina . His behavior was rated unsportsmanlike by numerous observers around the world.
