Stephen Alan "Steve" Harper (born March 14, 1975 in Easington ) is a former English football goalkeeper .

Career

He began his football career in 1992 with Seaham Red Star . He stayed there for only a year and moved to Newcastle United in 1993 . Between 1995 and 1998 Steve Harper was loaned to various clubs and was a substitute goalkeeper behind the Irish Shay Given for a total of twelve years . He made his debut for Newcastle United on November 28, 1998 against Wimbledon FC . By moving from Shay Given to Manchester City in February 2009, he is now the "number 1" of the "Magpies".
