Manfred Mahsberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manfred Mahsberg (* 1963 in Aachen ) is a contemporary German painter .

From 1983 to 1988 he studied painting at the FH Aachen with Christiane Maether and now lives in Jülich .

Mahsberg only paints portraits of historical personalities, mainly from the cultural field. In contrast to the classic portrait, he only uses square formats, and quite consistently only in three sizes: 7.5 × 7.5 cm, 25 × 25 cm, and 75 × 75 cm. He works with a very impasto application of paint so that the portraits appear relief-like. In some cases, the portraits are also covered with a thick layer of silicone, which makes the portrayed only vaguely recognizable.
