Michael Umaña Corrales (born July 16, 1982 in Santa Ana , Costa Rica ) is a Costa Rican soccer player.
Club career
The defender began his career with AD Carmelita , moved to CS Herediano in 2003 and in 2005 in the US Major League Soccer for the Los Angeles Galaxy . The engagement in the USA was anything but successful for him, so that he returned to Costa Rica in 2006, where he did not appear at Brujas FC . Further stations in Costa Rica were CS Herediano and AD Municipal Liberia . Then it went back to the USA, then to Guatemala, back to Costa Rica, to Iran and back again, again to Iran, back home and currently he is playing in Guatemala, where he last won the 2019/2020 Clausura.
Career in the national team
Umaña already went through various youth teams in Costa Rica and was also a member of the team for the 2004 Olympic Games.
He was also on the Costa Rican squad for the 2006 World Cup . During the tournament he was used in all three missions for the Costa Rican national soccer team.
At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, he surprisingly reached the quarter-finals with Costa Rica. There, the Costa Rican national team failed very close to the Netherlands on penalties, in which Umaña also missed . Umaña was used four times during the tournament.
Umaña was also nominated for Costa Rica's squad at the Copa América Centenario 2016 , but not used. On June 13, 2017, he played his 100th international match in a 2-1 win against Trinidad & Tobago in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup . But he was not nominated for the World Cup.
