Reiner Maurer (born February 16, 1960 in Mindelheim ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .
Career
player
Emerging from the youth of TSV Mindelheim and FC Memmingen , Maurer received after the station SpVgg Unterhaching at the beginning of the 1983/84 season a professional contract with FC Bayern Munich , for which he played seven league and two European cup games. He made his debut on August 20, 1983 (2nd match day) in the 3-1 win of FC Bayern Munich in the away game against Arminia Bielefeld .
For the 1984/85 season he was eligible to play for VfB Stuttgart , for which he played eleven point games - due to substitutions or substitutions. From 1985 to 1987 he played in the 2nd division - first 25 times (3 goals) for Karlsruher SC , then 22 times (1 goal) for Arminia Bielefeld . He then moved abroad and played for the Old Boys from Basel from 1987 to 1989 . After returning to Germany, he moved to TSV 1860 Munich and made the “march through” with the club from the third-class Bayern league to the 1994 Bundesliga .
Trainer

In 1997 he ended his playing career at 1. FC Garmisch-Partenkirchen and then looked after the clubs 1. FC Miesbach and FC Memmingen before he got a job as assistant coach under Peter Pacult at the Sechzgern in November 2001 . For the 2003/04 season, Maurer took over the Löwen U23, with whom he was able to celebrate the Bayern league championship and the associated promotion to the regional league at the end of the season. He then worked again under Rudi Bommer as assistant coach of the TSV 1860 first team, which had meanwhile been relegated from the Bundesliga. On December 5, 2004, he was appointed head coach. At the end of the season, the team missed direct promotion by a few points. At the winter break of the following season, the team was in fourth place. After the first second round match and two days before the cup quarter-finals against Eintracht Frankfurt , he was given leave of absence on January 22, 2006 by then President Karl Auer .
After his contract, which was valid until June 30, 2006, expired, he moved to the Greek first division club OFI Crete . Maurer did a good job and reached 7th place in the table at the end of the season. In the following season - Maurer was dismissed on November 12, 2007 - OFI Crete finished 12th (out of 16) and then 14th place in the table, which meant relegation.
In the summer of 2010 he returned to Grünwalder Strasse in Munich. Originally he was supposed to be the coach of the U23 again, but since Ewald Lienen - the coach of the professionals - was released from his contract prematurely at his own request, Maurer took over the post of head coach at TSV 1860 Munich on June 25, 2010. On November 17, 2012 - the team was in eighth place in the table - Maurer was given leave of absence because the team's sporting development in the recent past no longer met the demands of the leadership; his successor was Alexander Schmidt . With an average of 1.6 points per game (2004 to 2006 his average was 1.85), Maurer was the most successful head coach of TSV 1860 since relegation in 2004.
On September 24, 2013, the Greek first division club Skoda Xanthi announced Maurer's commitment on its website. After four months, Maurer was sacked on February 5, 2014 after losing 0-3 in a home game.
Since November 9, 2015, Maurer has coached Ang Thong FC , a football club in the Thai Premier League Division 1 , the second highest division in Thailand. The venue for the home games is the Ang Thong Stadium in the central Thai city of Ang Thong , around 100 kilometers north of the capital Bangkok . His contract ended here in November 2017.
For the 2019–21 season , Maurer took over the newly promoted regional league Türkgücü Munich . During the season break ordered due to the COVID-19 pandemic , his contract, which expired on May 31, 2020, was no longer extended; the club had been in first place in the table since matchday 14.
