Alexander Schmidt (born October 23, 1968 in Augsburg ) is a German football coach .
Career
As a player
During his active time as a football player, Schmidt only played in the 3rd or lower league. After his youth at FC Augsburg , he first belonged to the Bayern league squad of the Fuggerstadt team. Later he played for TSG Augsburg, SV Thierhaupten in the A-class (today Kreisliga), TSV Schwaben Augsburg , FC Canavese in the Italian Serie C2 , TSV Bobingen, TSV Dasing, FC Pipinsried and TSV Hilgertshausen. In addition to his work at 1860 Munich, he also took over the position of player-coach at the Spiel- und Sportvereinigung (SSV) Höchstädt in the 2002/03 season. However, Schmidt put that down before the winter break.
As a trainer
In 2000 he was coach of the B youth team at FC Augsburg. After two years he moved to Munich- Giesing to TSV 1860 Munich . In the following years he was a coach in the junior classes U16, U17 and U19 at the Munich Lions . During this time he trained the later national players Lars and Sven Bender , Peniel Mlapa , Moritz Leitner and Kevin Volland, among others .
For the 2010/11 season, Schmidt was assistant coach of Reiner Maurer in the second division team of 1860, a post he had nominally in the following season 2011/12 held. However, besides Wolfgang Schellenberg and Denis Bushuev, he was only the third assistant coach, as he was also training to be a football teacher at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy , which he successfully completed in spring 2012.
In the 2012/13 season Schmidt was the head coach of the U-21s in the Bavarian regional league . After initial difficulties, the team stayed under his leadership in the top third of the table.
On November 18, 2012, Schmidt succeeded Reiner Maurer as head coach of the second division team of TSV 1860, after the latter had been given leave of absence due to lack of success.
On the 6th match day in the 2013/14 season, Schmidt was suspended after the 2-0 defeat against SV Sandhausen . His successor was Friedhelm Funkel .
For the 2014/15 season , SSV Jahn Regensburg signed Schmidt as head coach. On November 9, 2014, however, he was given leave of absence due to the lack of athletic success. Christian Brand was his successor .
From 2015 he initially worked as a scout for VfB Stuttgart , after which he was part of the sporting management of the Swabian Bundesliga club. In January 2017 he became the coach of the U-19 youth team at SpVgg Unterhaching .
On July 1, 2017, he moved to Austria for FC Red Bull Salzburg , where he was the coach of the Academy's U-16 team. For the 2018/19 season he took over the Salzburg U-18 team. He left the club during the winter break of that season.
For the 2019/20 season he was coach of the Austrian Bundesliga club SKN St. Pölten . In March 2020, the Lower Austrians separated from Schmidt, the club was at the bottom of the table at that time.
For the season 2020/21 Schmidt returned to Germany and was coach of third division climber Türkgücü Munich .
