Markus Kauczinski (born February 20, 1970 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach . After having worked for Karlsruher SC for a long time in youth work and several times as an interim coach, from March 2012 he was responsible for its first team as head coach. From July to November 2016 he coached Bundesliga club FC Ingolstadt and from December 2017 to April 2019 FC St. Pauli . He has been the head coach of Dynamo Dresden since December 2019 .

Career

Kauczinski began playing soccer at Fortuna Gelsenkirchen when he was six . In 1988 he followed his then coach Klaus Fischer and switched to the amateurs of VfL Bochum .

He later worked as a youth coach at FC Schalke 04 , before moving to Karlsruher SC in 2001 as a youth coach . He was successful with the U-19 youth team at KSC and was promoted to the U-19 Bundesliga with it in 2004.With 24 wins from 26 games, the team was 19 points ahead of the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim youth team . Shortly beforehand, his success was honored and he was promoted to youth coordinator of the Baden club.

On May 1, 2009, Kauczinski took over from the resigned Rainer Krieg as coach in the second team of Karlsruher SC in the Regionalliga Süd , at the end of the season he managed to stay with her only because of Viktoria Aschaffenburg's license waiver. In the following years he led her to the front midfield, although his work was briefly interrupted several times. In August 2009, after Edmund Becker's leave of absence, he took over as an interim trainer for the second division team at Karlsruhe. After Markus Schupp was signed as a new coach, he returned to the second team. When he was also dismissed in early November 2010, Kauczinski slipped back into the role of interim coach for the second division until Uwe Rapolders was signed up for three weeks. After his successor Rainer Scharinger's commitment was prematurely terminated at the end of October 2011 , Kauczinski became KSC interim trainer for the third time. For the time being, he was denied a long-term commitment in the professional field, due to the lack of a necessary coaching license , he was not allowed to work permanently as a coach in professional football. In March 2012, Kauczinski, together with Stefan Effenberg , Mehmet Scholl and Christian Wörns , successfully completed a course to obtain the highest coaching license in German football. Just four days after receiving his coaching license, he succeeded Jørn Andersen as head coach of the professional team on March 26, 2012 at Karlsruher SC . On August 22, 2013, his contract was prematurely extended to June 30, 2016. In the 2014/15 season he reached third place in the 2nd Bundesliga with KSC. The first leg of the relegation ended 1: 1. After the second leg was lost 1: 2 a. V., promotion to the 1st Bundesliga was just missed. In early October 2015, Kauczinski informed the club not to extend his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the 2015/16 season. At the beginning of the following season, Kauczinski moved to the first division club FC Ingolstadt 04 . After ten consecutive league games without a win, he was released on November 6, 2016.

Since December 7, 2017, he has been the head coach of the second division club FC St. Pauli . His contract ran until June 30, 2019 and was extended for another year in November 2018. On April 10, 2019, Kauczinski was released when FC St. Pauli was in 6th place in the table after the 28th matchday of the 2018/19 season with four points behind the promotion relegation place. This was preceded by a previously weak second half of the season, in which they lost 4-0 in a row in the city derby against Hamburger SV and SV Sandhausen , so that the team was in 14th place in the second half of the table.

On December 10, 2019, the last place in the 2nd Bundesliga, SG Dynamo Dresden introduced Kauczinski as the new head coach, the contract runs until June 2021.
