Jens Härtel (born June 7, 1969 in Rochlitz ) is a German soccer coach and former player. He is currently training Hansa Rostock .
Player career
Jens Härtel learned to play football at BSG Chemie Großbothen. From there he switched to the youth team at BSG Motor Grimma . He then played for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig . In 1989 he joined Chemie Böhlen and immediately made it from the GDR league to the GDR league . In the following season, the club, which had now merged with the former BSG Chemie Leipzig to form FC Sachsen Leipzig , did not qualify for the first or second Bundesliga and entered the third-class NOFV Oberliga Süd in the 1991/92 season . There FC Sachsen became champions in 1993, but the license was refused to the financially troubled club.
Härtel then moved to 1. FC Union Berlin together with Oskar Kosche . But there, too, the license for the 2nd Bundesliga was withdrawn from the athletically qualified club due to economic deficiencies. Härtel stayed with 1. FC Union until 1996, before moving to FSV Zwickau and thus to professional football.
He played for FSV Zwickau for two years. When the club was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga in 1998, it moved back to the now economically strengthened 1. FC Union Berlin in the Regionalliga . But this time too, the promotion did not work out in Köpenick : In Härtel's last game for FC Union in 2000, they lost in the promotion relegation against LR Ahlen . Härtel moved again to FC Sachsen. However, the Leutzscher overtook the license withdrawal again, which downgraded them to the league in 2001.
Härtel then went to SV Babelsberg 03 , where his former teammate Oskar Kosche was now a manager. With the second division promoted, Härtel missed relegation in 2002. In the following season, Babelsberg's regional league license was revoked due to mismanagement. It was the fourth license withdrawal that Härtel experienced as a player. In 2003 he moved to Germania Schöneiche , where he ended his active career in the Association of Brandenburg after an injury in the summer of 2005 .
Coaching career
Germania Schöneiche
After the end of his career as a player, Härtel stayed with Germania Schöneiche, taking over Jürgen Piepenburg's team . In his first season he rose to the top league with the Schöneichern despite some personnel problems . There Härtel, supported by former teammates like Jörg Schwanke and Tom Persich , managed to stay up.
SV Babelsberg (assistant coach)
In October 2007 he moved to SV Babelsberg and became the assistant coach of Dietmar Demuth . With SV Babelsberg, he rose to the 3rd division in 2010 .
In March 2011, Härtel received his football instructor license at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy . He was in a course with the later Bundesliga coaches Roger Schmidt , Markus Gisdol , Markus Weinzierl , Tayfun Korkut and Thomas Schneider .
Berlin AK
In the summer of 2011 he moved to the newly promoted regional league Berliner AK 07 . With the team, Härtel reached seventh place in the first year and thus held the league. The team also won the Berlin Cup and thus qualified for the DFB Cup , in which they defeated Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 4-0 in the first round . Despite these successes, Härtel did not extend its collaboration with the BAK and in summer 2013 switched to the youth department of RB Leipzig to train the U19s .
RB Leipzig (U19)
Härtel was able to prove himself in one of the best Saxon youth performance centers and the U19 got a young coach with a clear vision and a modern style of play. The targeted promotion from the regional league to the A-Bundesliga succeeded straight away. But after only one year, Härtel left Leipzig due to disharmonies with sports director Ralf Rangnick and joined 1. FC Magdeburg.
1. FC Magdeburg
In the 2014/15 season , Härtel took over the coaching position at 1. FC Magdeburg . The goal was the promotion from the Regionalliga Nordost to the 3rd division. The season started for the season favorites with just eleven points from the first ten games. After the home game defeat against TSG Neustrelitz on matchday 10, Härtel's dismissal was requested, but was not considered by the club's management team headed by sports director Mario Kallnik . In the first main round of the 2014/15 DFB Cup , the team beat FC Augsburg 1-0. In the second round they lost to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on penalties. The season was marked by a head-to-head race for the relay victory with FSV Zwickau . On May 17, 2015, 1. FC Magdeburg was prematurely confirmed as champions of the Regionalliga Nordost with a 4-1 away win at Hertha BSC II . In the promotion games to the 3rd division, the FCM prevailed against the winner of the Regionalliga Südwest Kickers Offenbach . In the 2015/16 season , 1. FC Magdeburg played for the first time in all-German professional football. The 2015/16 season and 2016/17 season each ended with fourth place. In 2017, Härtel won the Saxony-Anhalt State Cup with FCM and defeated VfB Germania Halberstadt 1-0 in the final game. He repeated this success a year later and also won 1-0 in the final against Lok Stendal . In the 2017/18 season he led 1. FC Magdeburg to the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time . Since the club was in 17th place in the table with nine points after 13 match days of the 2018/19 season , Härtel and his assistant coach Ronny Thielemann were released on November 12, 2018.
Hansa Rostock
On January 9, 2019, the third division team and aspiring promotion Hansa Rostock introduced Härtel as the successor to the previously dismissed head coach Pavel Dotchev . Härtel led the Rostock soccer club into the state cup final and won it as expected and befitting. With the Ostseestädtern he finished sixth in the table at the end of the third division season 2018/19 . Already at the beginning of January 2020, within the following season , the football teacher extended his expiring contract in Rostock until June 30, 2021. In that season, he again placed sixth in the final table with the Hanseatic League and missed promotion to the next higher German division barely.
