John Adam Straith (born September 11, 1990 in Surrey , British Columbia ) is a Canadian football player . He is currently under contract with FC Hansa Rostock .

Career

Straith has been part of the residency team of the Vancouver Whitecaps , a junior team that has its game operations in the USL Premier Development League , since 2007 . Through the contacts of Thomas Niendorf, the head coach of the residency program, who had already placed young Canadian players at German professional clubs on several occasions, Straith and several other Canadians came to Energie Cottbus in 2008 after having had a trial training session at TSV 1860 Munich in 2007. In his loan year, Straith played 14 games for the 2nd team in the Regionalliga Nord in addition to appearances in the A-Juniors Bundesliga . In the summer of 2009 Cottbus took the option to buy and signed the youngster for an unknown transfer fee.

The Canadian junior international made his first professional appearance on matchday 10 of the 2009/10 season when he came on as a substitute for FC St. Pauli shortly before the end of the game . Although a trained central defender, Straith mostly played in the right-back position at Cottbus. He scored his first goal in the 2nd Bundesliga on November 29, 2009 in a 3-0 win against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen . The defender is under contract with the German club Energie Cottbus . On January 30, 2012, Straith moved to May 30 of the same year on loan to 1. FC Saarbrücken . On June 26, 2012 Energie Cottbus announced the termination of the contract with Straith. He then moved permanently to FC Saarbrücken for the 2012/13 season . There, his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2013.

In August 2013, SV Wehen Wiesbaden announced that they had signed Straith until June 30, 2014. In the summer of 2014, Straith left Nassauer after he had already played no role in the second half of the 2013/14 season and was therefore not taken to the winter training camp.

After three years abroad, Straith has been under contract in Germany since summer 2017, playing for third division club Sportfreunde Lotte , where he quickly became a regular and eventually even captain. With the team, he was relegated to the Regionalliga West at the end of the third division season 2018/19 . As a result, the Canadian subsequently signed a two-year contract with FC Hansa Rostock .

National teams

Straith has been a regular part of the Canadian junior team since 2006, but missed qualifying for the respective World Cup finals with both the U17 and the U20 . On May 24, 2010, the 20-year-old defender made his senior national team debut when he came on for veteran Richard Hastings in the clear 5-0 defeat against Argentina in the 81st minute .
