Clubs of the 3rd division 2013/14

The 2013/14 season of the 3rd football league was the sixth season of the single-track, third-highest German division in men's football . The season started on July 19, 2013 and ended on May 10, 2014.

In contrast to the sporting results of the previous season, there were two changes in the composition of the 3rd division in the current season: MSV Duisburg was not granted the license for the 2nd Bundesliga, in which the club had reached eleventh place, for economic reasons granted. The sporty relegated SV Sandhausen remained second class. In addition, SV Darmstadt 98, who had been relegated to the eighteenth of the previous season, took the place of the fifteenth kickers Offenbach , which on June 1 was not granted a license by the DFB licensing committee.

In the course of the second half of the season, a trio, consisting of 1. FC Heidenheim , promoted RB Leipzig and SV Darmstadt 98 , who had actually been relegated in the previous season, set themselves apart from the other teams and made the first three places among themselves from the 35th matchday on out. 1. FC Heidenheim secured their first promotion to the 2. Bundesliga on this match day and ended the season as champions. On the penultimate matchday, RB Leipzig also secured direct promotion and thus made it through the march from the regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga within a year. SV Darmstadt 98 qualified as third in the table for the relegation games to the 2nd Bundesliga, where they prevailed against Arminia Bielefeld and made the promotion perfect. In addition, the club was the top scorer in Dominik Stroh-Engel , who set a new third division record with 27 goals this season.

After 36 match days, the first two relegated teams were determined with 1. FC Saarbrücken and Wacker Burghausen . In addition, the newcomer SV Elversberg rose .

Promotion and relegation regulation

The first two teams rose straight away; the third in the table had to play in the relegation against the third from bottom of the 2nd Bundesliga in two playoffs for promotion. The three last-placed clubs relegated to the fourth-class regional league . The four best teams in the league qualified for the DFB Cup .
