Michael Ratajczak (born April 16, 1982 in Herne ) is a German soccer goalkeeper .

Career

Michael Ratajczak started his career at SG Herten Langenbochum. In his youth he moved to FC Schalke 04 and later to Borussia Dortmund . Under reserve coach Horst Köppel , he played his first games in the Oberliga Westfalen in 2001 . For BVB's second team, he also played 18 regional league games in the 2002/03 season . In 2003 he moved to the second division club LR Ahlen , for whom he played seven games in two seasons, but did not get past regular goalkeeper Bernd Meier . Then his way back to the regional league led him to Rot-Weiß Erfurt , where he made 29 appearances in two years.

From the 2007/08 season he was under contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf . There he was initially unable to prevail as number one and only played six games at the end of the 2007/08 regional league season because Michael Melka suffered a herniated disc. After Düsseldorf had played for a long time for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2007/08 season , they narrowly missed it with third place in the table, but they were able to qualify for the newly introduced, single-track 3rd division . At the end of the third division season 2008/09 was the 2nd place in the table, which Ratajczak rose with Düsseldorf in the 2nd Bundesliga . On the first day of the second division season 2009/10 Ratajczak was able to benefit from an injury Melka again and was number one in the entire season, even after Melka had returned. In the following season Ratajczak was exchanged for his rival Melka after four defeats in the first four games. However, when he was injured again in February 2011, he was allowed to go into goal again for the rest of the season. He was also a regular goalkeeper in the first half of the 2011/12 season before losing this position to Robert Almer in the middle of the second half of the season . In the last three games of the season, however, he was used again. Ratajczak also played in the relegation against Hertha BSC . Thanks to his achievements, Fortuna Düsseldorf was promoted to the Bundesliga . After the goalkeeper Fabian Giefer was signed, his contract in Düsseldorf was not extended afterwards.

For the 2012/13 season Ratajczak had an offer to move to Asteras Tripoli in Greece , but decided against it. During his absence from a club, he kept fit with Uwe Kamps and Borussia Mönchengladbach .

At the end of January 2013, Ratajczak then signed a contract with the Belgian second division club White Star Woluwe until the end of the 2012/13 season.

For the 2013/14 season Ratajczak joined the third division club MSV Duisburg . In this he then took the regular position in goal and achieved the return to the second division with the team in 2015 . After relegation in 2016 , he left the club and was then without a club.

In January 2017 he joined SC Paderborn 07 . In his first season , Ratajczak almost relegated to the regional league with Paderborn in eighteenth place . From a sporting point of view, Paderborn was already relegated to the third division, but Paderborn was subsequently able to hold the class, as the second division relegated TSV 1860 Munich was denied the third division license. At the end of the third division season 2017/18 , the second place in the table was with Paderborn, which Ratajczak achieved for the third time in his career promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga .

After the injury of substitute goalkeeper Martin Hansen , who was supposed to replace Michael Esser, who had switched to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , Ratajczak was signed by Hannover 96 as back-up for regular goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler in January 2020 . He has a contract with Lower Saxony until June 2021.
