The PAE Asteras Tripolis is a Greek football club from Tripoli . He plays in the top division of Greece , the Super League . The club colors are yellow-blue.

history

The association was unofficially founded in 1930. The training ground at that time was near the Tripoli train station. In 1931 the association was founded by law, but briefly dissolved again in 1932. That year another football club called "Keramikos" was founded in the city. In 1938, the founder of Keramikos, Minas Tsavdaris, decided to rename the association "Asteras".

In 1939 the new Asteras played in the Tripoli regional league. In 1940, after the outbreak of the Second World War , gaming operations were suspended again and re-established after the war. Initially, Asteras took part in the championship of the Arcadia region and played in the 5th division. There Asteras won eight titles and three cup wins.

In 2003, with the leap into the fourth league, the club's ascent from the 30,000-inhabitant city on the Peloponnese began , which reached a preliminary climax in 2007 when it reached the Super League for the first time. Asteras established itself in the top division of Greece and reached sixth place in the 2012 season with third place in the 2012/13 season, the best placement in the club's history. The club reached the third qualifying round of the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League , in which it was eliminated by SK Rapid Wien after a 1-1 home game and a 3-1-1 in Vienna.

In the 2014/15 season , Asteras prevailed in qualifying for the Europa League against Rovaniemi PS , 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Maccabi Tel Aviv and thus reached the group stage for the first time. With fourth place in the league, Asteras qualified for the 2015/16 Europa League directly for the group stage, where they face opponents FC Schalke 04 , Sparta Prague and APOEL Nicosia .

Stages

The small privately owned Asteras Tripoli stadium with a capacity of around 4,000 spectators did not meet the requirements of a first division stadium. In 2009 the new “Gipedo Astera Tripolis” stadium with a capacity of 6300 seats was completed. In 2013, the facility, which now offers space for 7717 spectators, was renamed “Stadio Theodoros Kolokotronis”.
