The PAS Lamia 1964 Football Club is a Greek football club from Lamia . The club was founded in 1964 and plays its home games in the city's municipal stadium . Lamia is currently playing in the Super League , the highest Greek league, for the first time after being promoted in 2017 .
history
The PAS Lamia 1964 Football Club was founded on June 1st, 1964 in Lamia , the capital of Central Greece with around 75,000 inhabitants today . The newly founded association emerged from a merger of some regional associations, of which Lamiakos and Palamiaki are to be mentioned in particular. However, due to some decisions by the Greek Football Association in the early 1960s , these regional clubs were almost forced to unite under the new club AS Lamia . In addition, another club emerged from such an association called AS Thermopylae , which never played a role in national football in Greece .
After the founding of today's PAS Lamia, the club initially played a few years in the lower class and later for many years in the second class Football League , but without being able to move up to the first class Super League . Instead, Lamia often commuted between second and third division, from which promotion was last achieved in 2014. Three years later, the PAS Lamia made it through to the Super League. They finished the second division season 2016/17 in second behind Apollon Smyrnis and thus rose to the highest Greek football league for the first time in the club's history. It was noteworthy that Lamia conceded just eleven goals in the 34 games of the promotion season and thus clearly had the best defense in the league.
This means that the PAS Lamia team will play in the Super League, Greece's top division in football, for the first time in the 2017/18 season .
