Central Greece ( Greek Στερεά Ελλάδα Stereá Elláda , German 'Mainland Greece' ) is one of the 13 regions of Greece . It includes part of the central Greek mainland as well as the islands of Evia and Skyros ; The capital is Lamia .
Regional districts and municipalities
The region of Central Greece is divided into five regional districts, which correspond to the areas of the former five prefectures of the region. In proportion to their population, they send a certain number of MPs to the 51-member regional council.

Sterea Ellada is the wealthiest region in Greece. In comparison with the GDP of the EU expressed in purchasing power standards, Sterea Ellada achieved an index of 115.7 in 2003 (EU-25: 100). In 2017 the unemployment rate was 20.8%.
