Location in the Central Greece region

Stylida ( Greek Στυλίδα [ stiˈliða ] ( f. Sg. )) Is a municipality in the north of the Greek region of Central Greece . It was formed on January 1, 2011 from three predecessor communities and has its seat in the city of the same name with around 5000 inhabitants.

Stylida is located on the north coast of the Gulf of Malia , opposite Thermopylae and the Strait of Orei, which separates the eastern municipality from the north coast of the island of Evia . Only a narrow coastal strip is flat, the majority of the municipal area is mountainous country that rises north to the Othrys massif with the Gerakovouni ( 1726  m ). Here Domokos borders in the west and Almyros in the north with Stylida. Only in the far west on the border with Lamia , where the community extends into the alluvial land of the Sperchios, and near Pelasgia in the east, there are small plains.

In 1835 two communities with the names of ancient Thessalian cities of the region were founded in today's municipality: Falara (after the port city of Lamias, Phalara) with seat in Stylida and Kremasti Larisis (after Kremastē Larissa Κρεμαστὴ Λάρισσα) with the seat of Gardiki (Γαρδίκι, since 1927 ). These parishes were divided into many smaller parishes in 1912. In 1997, 16 communities were merged into three larger ones, namely Stylida and Pelasgia and a 'community of the Echineans' (from the ancient name of Achinos, Echinos Ἐχῖνος ). The new municipality of Stylida emerged from the merger of these three municipalities with the administrative reform in 2010 .

Community structure

The 16 municipalities that existed until 1997 have had the status of an urban district (Ez. Gr. Dimotiki kinotita ) - namely Stylida - or of local communities (topiki kinotita) since 2011 and elect a council or an individual representative as local representative depending on the number of inhabitants. The population figures come from the results of the 2011 census.
