Karystos ( Greek Κάρυστος [ ˈkaristɔs ] ( f. Sg. )) Is a town and municipality on the south coast of the Greek island of Evia (Euboea). The core city today has about 5000 inhabitants; around 13,500 people live in the community, which was last enlarged significantly in 2010 through incorporation.
The oldest traces of settlement can already be found from the Neolithic . According to mythological tradition, the name of the place goes back to a son of Chiron of the same name . Karystos ( ka-ru-to ) is already mentioned on a linear B tablet from the palace of Thebes in the second half of the 13th century BC. Mentioned. Karystos resisted in the year 490 BC.
