Centaure missile

Centaure is the name of a two-stage, French sounding rocket , consisting of a " Belier " launch stage and a " Venus " upper stage.

The Belier was built 230 times and launched by Hammaguir , Reggane , CELPA , Salto di Quirra , Esrange , Thumba , Sonmiani and Andøya . The Centaure has a maximum payload of 60 kg, a peak height of 140 km, a take-off thrust of 44 kN, a take-off mass of 457 kg, a diameter of 0.28 m and a length of 6.02 m.

Centaure had a total of five failures. 97.3% of the flights were successful. The first failure happened on December 1, 1962, the last on April 14, 1969.

It belonged to a family of solid rocket missiles , which consisted of the Belier , the Centaure, the Dragon , the Dauphin and the Eridan .
