Thumba ( Malayalam : തുമ്പ Tumpa [ ˈt̪umba ]) is a fishing village in the Indian state of Kerala , about 10 kilometers west of Thiruvananthapuram .
He is known for the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS), which has been operating there since 1963, a launch site for sounding rockets that can reach heights of up to 400 km.
