Peloponnese ( Greek Πελοπόννησος Pelopónnisos ) is the name of one of the 13 administrative regions (Ez. Greek περιφέρεια periféria ) of Greece. It essentially comprises the historical landscapes of Messenia , Arcadia , Laconia , Argolis and the surroundings of Corinth on the Peloponnese peninsula, as well as a piece of the mainland beyond the isthmus. Contrary to the name of the region, this is not congruent with the Peloponnese: the western part belongs to western Greece , whereas in the east of the peninsula some communities belong to the islands regional district of the Attica region .

Regional districts and municipalities

The Peloponnese region is divided into five regional districts (singular Greek περιφερειακή ενότητα periferiaki enotita ), which correspond to the areas of the prefectures that existed until 2010. In proportion to their population, they send a certain number of MPs to the 51-member regional council.
