Attractions

The little theater

On the outskirts of Palea Epidavros , at the Acropolis, there is a small theater from the 4th century BC. BC, which in antiquity probably belonged to a Dionysus sanctuary. It is not mentioned anywhere in the traditional ancient literature. Concerts are held there on the weekends in July, and today it is used for music lessons during the rest of the summer.

National Assembly Monument

In Nea Epidavros there is a memorial column for the National Assembly that met here in 1821.

The ancient place of worship

In the western municipality of Asklipiio is the archaeological site of Epidauros (Greek Asklipiio Epidavrou Ασκληπιείο Επιδαύρου or Archea Epidavros Αρχαία Επίδαυρος), an ancient place of worship that has the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The place of worship was built away from the actual settlement of Palea Epidavros , as there was a spring there from which visitors to the theater could be supplied. The theater is one of the few ancient theaters that have been preserved intact since ancient times. Since 1955 events have been held there every summer as part of the Hellenic Festival (Epidavros Festival).
