Loutraki-Perachora-Agii Theodori ( pronunciation : [ luˈtrai̯kʲi ˈaʝi θɛˈɔðɔri ], Greek Λουτράκι ( n. Sg. ) - Άγιοι Θεόδωροι ( m. Pl. )) Is a Greek community near Corinth in the Peloponnese region . Formed in the course of the administrative reform in 2010 from the previously independent communities Loutraki-Perachora and Agii Theodori , it was initially named Loutraki-Agii Theodori until it was renamed by decree of January 17, 2014 .
geography
Loutraki-Perachora-Agii Theodori includes the western part of the Gerania mountain range (up to 1369 m ), which does not belong to the Peloponnese peninsula , but to mainland Greece, as well as part of the Isthmus of Corinth with the Corinth Canal . A part of the district of Isthmia around the southern exit of the canal lies to the west of this and thus on the Peloponnese, here the municipality of Corinth borders to the west . The Gerania Mountains with the mountain villages Perachora and Pisia protrude as a peninsula into the Gulf of Corinth in the north and separate the Alkyonian Gulf in the north from the actual Bay of Corinth. Near Cape Melangavi, less than a hundred meters from the coast, there is a salt lake surrounded on three sides by mountains, Lake Vouliagmeni. Loutraki is the northeastern neighbor city of Corinth on its bay, while Isthmia and Agii Theodori are on the coast of the Saronic Gulf and on the old road connection from Megara to Corinth. The West Attic municipality of Megara borders the municipality to the east. In addition, the uninhabited archipelago of the Alkyonids belongs to the municipal area.
history
In ancient times, the area belonged to Corinth and was called Peraia ( Greek Περαία ) with the main town Peiraion (Πείραιον), today's Perachora. The Corinthians maintained some fortifications on the Gerania for defense against Megara and Athens. Loutrakis thermal springs were already known in ancient times. The modern city of Loutraki emerged in the course of the beginning of spa tourism in the 19th century.
The municipality (dimos) Perachora has existed since the founding of the modern Greek state . In 1912 it was divided into the rural communities (Ez. Kinotita ) Agii Theodori, Isthmia, Loutraki and Pisia, whereby the settlement Perachora came to Loutraki and Isthmia the settlement Kyras Vrysi of Corinth was added. In 1928 Loutraki was renamed Loutraki-Perachora and in 1934 upgraded to a township. In 1997, Isthmia and Pisia were again incorporated into Loutraki-Perachora. Agii Theodori, which was elevated to a municipality in 1994, was finally reunited with this municipality in the course of the 2011 administrative reform , initially under the name Loutraki-Agii Theodori, since its renaming by decree of January 17, 2014 under the name Loutraki-Perachora-Agii Theodori.
Community structure
The four municipalities that existed until 1997 have had the status of urban districts (Ez. Gr. Dimotiki kinotita ) or local communities (topiki kinotita) - namely Pisia - since 2011 and elect a council as local representation. The population figures come from the results of the 2011 census.
