Domingos Vieira
Domingos Vieira (born May 2, 1775 in Porto , † May 4, 1857 in Baião (Portugal) ) was a Portuguese Augustinian monk, theologian, Romanist , Lusitanist and lexicographer.
life and work
Vieira studied theology in Coimbra . He received his doctorate there and taught in Coimbra and Braga . In old age he retired with his library and his manuscripts to Mesquinhata near Baião .
Vieira left behind extensive materials for a large dictionary of Portuguese, which was published 15 years after his death on 5430 pages with the main help of Francisco Adolfo Coelho , but then saw no further editions.
