Korinthia ( Greek Κορινθία , Korinthía , German also Korinthien ) is a historic landscape in the northeast of the Peloponnese and one of the five regional districts of the Greek region of Peloponnese . Until the administrative reform of 2010 , the area had the status of a prefecture , since then, apart from the allocation of seats in the Peloponnese regional council, has no longer had any political significance.

The area of the regional district consists of the area around the capital Corinth , west of the Peloponnese peninsula , but also east of the isthmus on the adjacent mainland, i.e. it lies between the Gulf of Corinth and the Saronic Gulf .

Together with the Argolis , Korinthia formed the prefecture of Argolidokorinthia with a short break since the Greek independence together with the islands of Ydra , Spetses and Kythira . It was not until 1949 that the areas were separated, and the prefecture was created within its later borders.

In addition to the capital, whose ancient sights such as the Acrocorinth are among the main tourist attractions, the ruins of Nemea , ancient Isthmia and Sikyon are particularly worth seeing. On the coast of the Corinthian Gulf is the seaside resort of Xylokastro , across the isthmus, opposite Corinth is the spa town of Loutraki , which is mainly important for domestic Greek tourism and which also produces one of the most famous mineral waters in Greece. Inland are the Kyllini Mountains (highest elevation 2,376 m above sea level) and the Stymphalos , next to Nemea one of the scenes of the ancient Herakles legend. The most important river in the prefecture is the Asopos .

Korinthia includes the communities of Korinth , Loutraki-Perachora-Agii Theodori , Nemea , Sikyona , Velo-Vocha and Xylokastro-Evrostini .
