The prefecture of Athens ( Greek Νομαρχία Αθηνών Nomarchia Athinon ) was until 2010 one of the four territorial authorities of the region and prefecture of Attica , which were de facto equal to the other prefectures. Finally, together with the prefectural district of Piraeus, it also formed a joint prefecture administration for some matters, a so-called 'over-prefecture', which roughly corresponded to the size of the Athens-Piäus agglomeration. With the Greek administrative reform in 2010 , the level of the prefectures was abolished and the area of the prefecture of Athens was divided into four regional districts (Ez. Greek periferiaki enotita ), which, however, apart from the allocation of seats in the regional council, have no independent meaning.
