The Greek prefecture of Lesbos ( Greek Λέσβος ( f. Sg. ), Lésvos ) was one of three prefectures of the administrative region of the North Aegean ( Vorio Egeo Βόρειο Αιγαίο) and comprised the islands of Lesbos , Limnos (Λήμνος) and Agios some στάς (Εγος) and Agios Efstratios ( small, surrounding islands in the northeastern Aegean . Limnos was represented within the prefecture by its own provincial office (gr. Eparchío , επαρχείο). The prefecture was founded in 1915 and ruled from the administrative center of Mytilene ; With the administrative reform of 2010 , their competencies were transferred to the North Aegean region and the now three municipalities that correspond to the three inhabited islands. At the same time, it was divided into the two regional districts of Lesbos and Limnos, which, however, apart from the allocation of seats for the regional council, have no political significance.
Municipalities 1997–2010
The prefecture was divided into seventeen municipalities (δήμος, Dimos) and one rural municipality (κοινότητα, Kinotita ).
