The regional unit of Kerkyra ( Greek Periferiaki Enotita Kerkyras ) is the largest of the five regional units of the Greek Ionian Islands . It consists of the island of Corfu with surrounding islets, the Diapontian Islands and the Paxi archipelago . The administrative seat is the regional capital Corfu .

The area was formed as a prefecture after the Ionian Islands were annexed to Greece in 1864. With the administrative reform of 2010 , the prefecture was dissolved and its powers were transferred to the Ionian Islands region and the newly allocated municipalities. Since then, the area has consisted of the two communities Kerkyra and Paxi . With 22 of 41 members of the Regional Council of the Ionian Islands, the Kerkyra regional district has a majority of the seats, but has no political significance as a local authority.
