The regional district of Kavala ( Greek Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Καβάλας Periferiaki Enotita Kavalas ) is one of six regional districts in the Greek region of East Macedonia and Thrace . It was formed on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 from the mainland area of ​​the former Kavala prefecture . In proportion to its 124,917 inhabitants, the area sends 11 members to the regional council of East Macedonia and Thrace, but has no further political significance as a local authority. It is divided into the three municipalities of Kavala , Nestos and Pangeo .
